Q: Do I need any prior experience with Chinese?
A: Not at all! I work with students at every level, from total beginners to advanced learners looking to refine their grammar or conversation skills. I’ll meet you right where you are.
Q: What’s your teaching style like?
A: I keep things flexible, personalized, and engaging. Whether you’re a beginner or advanced learner, I tailor lessons to your pace and interests. I explain things clearly, offer real-life examples, and make sure you truly understand how and when to use what you learn.
Q: How do lessons work? Are they online or in person?
Most lessons are conducted online via Zoom, Google Meet, Discord, or the platform of your choice. This allows for flexibility and convenience, whether you’re learning from home or on the go.
Q: Do you offer trial lessons?
A: Yes! A trial lesson is a great way for us to meet, discuss your goals, and get a feel for how I teach. No pressure, just a friendly conversation and some fun language practice.
What materials or resources will I need?
We can work with whatever you’re comfortable using, whether that be textbooks, apps, personal goals, or even favorite TV shows and songs. I also provide tailored materials and suggestions based on your goals and learning style. While I am flexible in my use and recommendation of resources, I do strongly recommend using at least some form of a textbook as part of the learning process.
Can you help me prepare for tests like the HSK?
A: Absolutely! I’m very familiar with the HSK system and can help you build vocabulary, reading comprehension, listening skills, and test-taking strategies to feel confident on exam day.
What if I’m struggling with grammar like 了 or sentence structure?
A: That’s my specialty! I’ve been there myself and know how tricky grammar particles can be. I break them down clearly and help you practice until they feel natural in conversation.
